Personalisation & Conversion Rate Optimisation with Adobe Target
How Chitrakaar Designs Helped Bendigo Kangan Institute Turn Its Website Into a Personalisation Engine Working alongside Bendigo Kangan Institute's digital team, Chitrakaar Designs implemented and operationalised Adobe Target across bendigokangan.edu.au — from structured A/B testing of course pages to reusable content architecture and no-code campaign delivery.

Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI) is the registered entity behind Bendigo TAFE, Kangan Institute, VETASSESS and eWorks — one of Victoria's largest vocational education and training providers, delivering nationally recognised courses across trades, health, community services, business and digital industries.
BKI's marketing and digital teams wanted their course pages to do more than present information statically — they needed a way to test layout and content changes against real engagement and enquiry data, reuse existing AEM content inside personalised experiences, and launch time-sensitive campaigns (such as Open Night promotions) without waiting on development cycles. Adobe Target was already part of the stack, but the team needed it configured, validated and demonstrated across real, production-grade use cases.
Our Approach
Chitrakaar Designs worked directly with BKI across four practical Adobe Target initiatives — spanning experimentation, content reuse, platform troubleshooting and no-code campaign delivery — to give the team a repeatable playbook for personalisation and CRO on the BKI website.
Use Case 1 Accordion Course Pages A/B Test
OBJECTIVE
Evaluate whether an accordion-based course page layout improves user engagement and lead generation compared to the existing layout, which displays all course information upfront.
WHAT WE DID
- Configured an A/B test in Adobe Target: Variation A (control) kept the existing full-content layout; Variation B introduced collapsible accordion sections so users could expand only the content they cared about.
- Set traffic allocation and audience targeting through Adobe Target across an initial rollout of 6 course pages in the production environment.
- Defined primary KPIs (engagement with accordion interactions and content consumption, plus lead generation events such as enquiry form submissions and CTA clicks) and secondary KPIs (CTA click-through rate, average time on page, exit rate).
OUTCOME
The test gave BKI a controlled, data-backed way to validate whether a cleaner, more intentional content structure reduces information overload and drives more enquiries — with a framework in place to extend the winning layout beyond the initial 6 pages.
Use Case 2 Experience Fragment Integration (AEM + Adobe Target)
OBJECTIVE
Validate whether Adobe Experience Fragments (XF) could be used inside Adobe Target activities to cut development effort and make personalised content easier to manage.
WHAT WE DID
- Ran a proof of concept in the development environment using Experience Targeting to render an existing AEM Experience Fragment inside an Adobe Target activity.
- Confirmed content updates made in AEM flowed through to Adobe Target automatically, with no changes required to the Target activity itself.
- Validated that the same Experience Fragment could be reused across multiple Target activities and pages without duplicating content.
OUTCOME
The POC was executed successfully, confirming that Experience Fragments give BKI a scalable, centrally managed way to power personalised experiences in Adobe Target — reducing rework and keeping AEM as the single source of truth for content.
Use Case 3 Resolving an Adobe Target VEC Issue for the Open Night Campaign
OBJECTIVE
Restore the business team's ability to edit page content directly inside the Adobe Target Visual Experience Composer (VEC) for the time-sensitive Open Night campaign activity.
WHAT WE DID
- Diagnosed the issue: the live website was not rendering inside the VEC, blocking the business team from loading the page to make edits.
- Identified the root cause as a page-rendering incompatibility within the Visual Experience Composer's preview frame.
- Recommended installing the Adobe Target VEC Helper Extension to restore compatibility, then verified the page loaded and was editable after installation.
OUTCOME
The business team regained the ability to build and update the Open Night campaign experience directly in Adobe Target — without development support. We also left BKI with standing recommendations: keep the VEC Helper Extension installed on any browser used for Target activities, confirm compatibility before starting new VEC-based work, and check site security headers (X-Frame-Options, Content Security Policy) if the issue recurs.
Use Case 4 No-Code Popup Campaigns via Adobe Target
OBJECTIVE
Give the business team a way to launch on-page popups for campaign content without requiring changes to the website codebase.
WHAT WE DID
- Built a popup entirely through the Custom Code option in Adobe Target's Visual Experience Composer — HTML for structure, CSS for styling and responsive behaviour, and JavaScript for display logic, interactions and dismissal.
- Deployed the complete experience through Adobe Target directly, with no AEM or website code changes required.
OUTCOME
BKI can now launch and update popup campaigns independently through Adobe Target. The approach is reusable for future campaigns and delivers faster turnaround, reduced dependency on development teams, and full content control for the marketing team.
Impact
- A repeatable A/B testing framework for course pages, grounded in engagement and lead-generation KPIs.
- A validated, scalable pattern for reusing AEM Experience Fragments inside Adobe Target — cutting future development effort.
- A resolved, documented fix for VEC editing issues, plus standing guardrails to prevent recurrence.
- A no-code popup framework the BKI marketing team can reuse for future campaigns without developer involvement.
